Safe Places is a national initiative that has been adopted by Wokingham Borough Council to help people feel more confident and independent when out and about in the community.
A range of local venues across the borough have signed up to become Safe Places. If you ever feel unsafe, worried, upset, or unsure while you are out, you can visit one of these locations and ask a member of staff for support. Staff at participating venues have access to easy-read guidance featuring pictures and simple questions. These resources were developed in partnership with members of CLASP, Wokingham’s self-advocacy group for adults with learning disabilities.
Staff can help by:
Giving directions if you are lost or unsure how to get somewhere.
Providing a safe and welcoming space where you can sit and wait until you feel more comfortable.
Helping you make a phone call to a trusted contact, family member, friend, or support service.
How to Find a Safe Place:
Participating venues display a Safe Places sticker in their window, making them easy to identify.
Current Safe Places in Wokingham include:
Wokingham Library (Carnival Hub)
Wokingham Town Hall
The Hub (Waterford House, Erftstadt Court, Denmark Street)
